Gravity Wall

GeoGrow’s Rootlok Standard Gravity build provides a simple solution for low height walls. The gravity build follows a stretcher bond application, and allows engineers, architects, contractors, and homeowners a simple option for installing a green retaining wall solution.
The Rootlok Gravity system follows a consistent build pattern with all bags being installed in a head to toe format with the seam facing inwards towards the backfill area. This application is an ideal option for lower height walls up to 0.8m high with minimal surcharge. A key benefit of this system is its ability to minimise the footprint of the wall, making it ideal for projects that are restricted on space.
The Gravity System can also be adapted to offer a vegetated facing solution for other retaining wall systems such as sheet piling, allowing a green finish to be achieved whilst maintaining a minimal footprint.
Varying ground conditions and surcharge loadings can significantly alter the design of a Rooltok wall.
Gravity Wraparound
GeoGrow's Rootlok Gravity Wraparound wall provides a cost effective solution for scour protection and large scale retaining solutions. In the form of a green stretcher bond application and BBA certified geogrid. Commonly used on flood defence, highways and residential.
Our Gravity Wall system ensures a consist build with all bags being installed in a head to toe format with the seal facing inwards towards the backfill. The Geogrid is incorporated into the backfill, wrapped over the front face and returned into the backfill to add the highest level of structural support available.
The BBA certified Geogrid allows the system to be built to its maximum potential with limitless boundaries simply by increasing the footprint of the system. In these scenarios the Rootlok bags form a facing to the mechanically stabilised earth. The wrap around detail protects bags from being scoured / pulled from the system where they may undergo high water flow rates. Utilising the gravity system it also reduces the number of bags used while maintaining stability.
This application is commonly used for larger projects where retained heights are significant, water flows are high and flooding is likely or large surcharges are present. i.e - Flood defence walls / boundary walls / Roads & Carparks etc.
Varying ground conditions and surcharging will significantly alter the solution for the Rootlok wall.
Rootlok Tie-Back System

The Rootlok Tie-Back System offers a solution that follows the principles of a gravity mass retaining wall with a minimum footprint for walls up to 1.5m in height (depending on site conditions).
Like the Rootlok Gravity System, the design of the Tie-Back System relies solely on the sheer mass of the structure. However, instead of all Rootlok bags laid head to toe, alternate bags are rotated 90° towards the back of the wall, providing the reinforcement of a ‘tie-in’ to the backfill material area.
This system is commonly used for low-medium height walls where there is light surcharging above the wall to consider. Varying ground conditions and surcharge loadings can significantly alter the design of a Rooltok wall.
Rootlok GeoGrid Reinforced System

Adapting the principles of mechanically stabilised earth (MSE) utilising BBA Certified Stratagrid® geogrids, Rootlok offers a vegetated solution for reinforced retaining walls, steep slopes and embankments (structures with a face less than 70° from the horizontal). The Rootlok Geogrid Reinforced System can be used for structures with a retained height of 10m plus or have surcharges present, all with a 120-year design life.
Geogrid reinforcement can be combined with both the Gravity and Tie-Back Systems depending on the application, allowing the system to be built to its maximum potential with limitless boundaries simply by increasing the footprint of the system.
GeoGrow are the designers of the Rootlok System. Where space is an issue and you wish to maximise the available land as much as possible, we can investigate using other systems as part of a Rootlok solution. We often combine the Rootlok System with soil nailing and sheet piling, reducing the footprint of the structure yet delivering a green sustainable solution.
