How it's made - Rootlok

Lean more about how our Rootlok bags are manufactured

Rootlok is our UK-manufactured modular geotextile bag and interlocking plate system designed to provide a sustainable and natural alternative to hard-engineered retaining structures.

The bag

The Rootlok bag is created by taking permeable, needle punched, geotextile which is then heat bonded on three sides to create its bag shape. This fabric is specifically chosen because it enables the bag to function as a filtration system, allowing moisture to pass through and plant roots to move freely while keeping soil particles contained. The geotextile is UV stabilised, ensuring the bags do not rot.

The process. As easy as 1, 2, 3!

1.

bag filling

The bags are then filled with a mixture of sand, soil and composts that are free from pollutants and are of a grade that will support the growth of vegetation. The material used to fill each bag is an engineered blend that creates a free draining system with sufficient nutrients to gain a sustainable green finish.

2.

Green Bag Stitching 23.08.23

Once the bags have been filled with the specially blended material, they are then moved down the conveyor belt and stitched. This method uses 2 threads to close the bag to avoid material leakage between the stitches.

3.

palletised bags- unwrapped

Once stitched, the bags are then collected by the mechanical lifting arm and placed on to a pallet. Once the pallets are the appropriate height, they are then wrapped and placed in the vehicle ready to ship.
