Rootlok is our UK-manufactured modular geotextile bag and interlocking plate system, designed as a sustainable and natural alternative to traditional hard-engineered retaining structures. But have you ever wondered how these innovative bags are made? Let’s take a closer look at the process.
At the heart of the Rootlok system is our specially designed geotextile bag. It is crafted using permeable, needle-punched geotextile fabric, which is then heat-bonded on three sides to form a sturdy and durable bag. This fabric is specifically selected to allow moisture to pass through while keeping soil particles contained, ensuring optimal filtration. Additionally, the geotextile is UV-stabilised, preventing degradation over time and ensuring long-term functionality.
Step 1: Bag filling
Once the Rootlok bags are ready, they are filled with a carefully engineered mixture of sand, soil, and compost. This blend is pollutant-free and designed to support plant growth while maintaining excellent drainage properties. By using this mix, we create a system that not only provides structural integrity but also promotes sustainable green finishes through vegetation growth.
Step 2: Stitching the bags
After filling, the bags move along a conveyor belt for stitching. To prevent leakage and ensure a secure seal, we use a dual-thread stitching method. This approach reinforces the bag’s durability, keeping the filling material securely contained while still allowing water and root penetration.
Step 3: Palletising and shipping
Once stitched, the filled bags are lifted by a mechanical arm and placed onto pallets. When the pallet reaches the appropriate height, it is wrapped and prepared for shipping. The wrapped pallets are then loaded onto vehicles, ready to be delivered to sites where they will be used to create sustainable retaining structures.
Rootlok bags offer a greener, more flexible alternative to traditional retaining walls. Their geotextile composition supports vegetation growth, contributing to natural landscapes while preventing erosion. Plus, with our efficient manufacturing process, we ensure that each bag meets high-quality standards for durability and sustainability.
By choosing Rootlok, you’re not only investing in a reliable retaining system but also supporting a more eco-friendly future. Interested in learning more? Contact us today!
